Maintaining Mental Health in a Competitive Work Environment

How to boost mental health and well-being that results from toxic workplace culture

While Jena's treatment approach is primarily Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, she comes from a humanistic perspective, believing that each of us is born with everything that we need to get through life in a happy and healthy way.

She has worked with hundreds of clients with a range of diagnoses including depression, anxiety, substance abuse, PTSD, personality disorders, schizophrenia, and bi-polar disorder. In this talk Jena will explore how we can better take care of our mental health and well-being while still performing in highly competitive work environments.

Typical conditions that can result from chronic stress due to work include emotional exhaustion, turnover intention, somatic symptom burden, work/family conflict, identity issues, and absenteeism. Jena will review the more common diagnoses she sees in her practice such as anxiety and depression, common pitfalls that exacerbate symptoms, and practical tools to boost our own emotional health that we can utilize in and out of the office.

Advocacy

How to respond to micro-aggressions targeted to you / others, how to lift others up in the workplace, owning your own space, and tips for calling out bad behavior without drawing negative attention to yourself

Self-advocacy is a learned skill: we are not born knowing how to do this well.

However, as we progress in our career knowing how to successfully advocate for oneself becomes more and more critical. Unfortunately our brains tend to focus more on our personal failings than what we do well.

In this talk Jena will go through how to "ground back in your competency," how and when to speak up without drawing negative attention to yourself, and practical ways to increase your visibility and showcase your unique value at the office.
